Travels in Europe - Rome

More travel stuff.  My most recent trip outside of Germany, this time to Rome.  Rome is a pretty exciting city, but I only got to see the old parts of the city and not the modern bits, which I hear are pretty cool as well.  Did the usual tourist trail: Vatican, coliseum, Roman ruins, pantheon...etc.

It seems like everything in Rome is under constant restoration, which is a necessity of course, but visually a shame.

Beautiful weather, but it looked much warmer than it actually was!

The line to get into St. Peter's Basilica.  Wasn't actually that much of a wait, maybe 20-30 mins.

A beautiful pasta ad that my friend pointed out.

Ruins aren't exactly all that interesting I discovered...

Travels in Europe - London!

Well, first post of the new year.  Haven't really got any great new years resolutions or anything except maybe to get a job when I graduate in 6 months.  Fingers crossed! More uploads from my travels in Europe.  This time its London, and man do I love London.  It reminds me greatly of home (Hong Kong) in a weird way but still distinctly European.  Its undoubtedly the liveliest city I've been to in Europe so far, and thank god everyone speaks English! It makes all the difference when there's no language barrier.  You can appreciate everything a bit more easily.

Red buses! The old kind.....

..and the new kind.  And there's going to be an even newer kind soon.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that the buses are almost identical to the ones we have in Hong Kong.

Outside the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square.

Trafalgar Square.  Typical London Weather....

Somebody's fancy horse drawn carriage! Some lord...or duke...or something...

A reading of "Peter and the Wolf" inside St. Paul's Cathedral.

Covent Garden getting all decked up in Christmas ornaments, even though it was only November.

The British Museum at night.

Typical London weather....again.

Can you believe this was on the same day and the same street as the previous picture? Also, what is a Sphinx doing on the Themes?

Fat pigeons getting their chow mein fix.

The London Eye.

Walking along the Themes.  Red telephone booth!

A man sharing his lunch with birds.

At the Battle of Britain Memorial.  Just happened to stumble across it.  Quite moving really.

Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, some of my last stops on the tourist trail.

Travels in Europe - Prague

One of the best things about going on exchange is travel.  Being in Germany, the heart of Europe means I can pretty much go anywhere pretty easily.  The first big trip I made was to Prague last month, here are some highlights.

German Wings, a German budget airline, has an old school marketing campaign involving hot air hostesses.  None of them actually look like that.

Free vodka samples at the airport? Ah Eastern Europe.

Gloomy subways.

Very Eastern Europe-y weather.  Cloudy red skies..

Old school trams.

Prague has the longest and fastest escalators I've EVER been on.

Walking to the Prague castle.

The Astronomical Clock in the old town square.  Every hour theres a little mechanical performance and a trumpet blown.

The old town square.

The green fairy.  And her red, blue, and yellow friends.

I love the Prague subways signage.

They got some crazy space age-y deco in some subway stations.

The Museum of Communism.  Hey Lenin.

Inside the clock tower in the old town square.

View of the old town square from the top of the tower.  Prague is beautiful.
